Industrial Hard Chrome Specifications

Industrial Hard Chrome is a hard (RC 68-72) electrolytically deposited coating that can be applied to most metallic substrates, including various steels, and cast iron. Deposit thickness can vary depending on the application from .0001”. to over .050”

Hard Chrome differs from decorative chromium that you see within the automotive industry in that it is applied directly to the substrate and comprises the total coating. DCPI does not perform custom/decorative (shiny finish) plating for automotive applications.

The Plating Process: Hard Chrome Processing

Hard Chrome plating is an electrochemical process that deposits a coating of chromium with improved evenness and accuracy on a variety of substrates including various steels and cast iron.

It is applied by immersing the parts and its fixture into various cleaning and chromic acid solutions in the presence of electric current. The Hard Chrome process never subjects parts to temperatures over 140°F unless an embrittlement bake is specified, hence there is no part distortion as with other hard surfacing procedures.

Benefits of Industrial Hard Chrome Plating

There are many advantages to choosing industrial hard chrome plating. Chrome plating is used to improve performance and extend the life of the parts that we plate and is a preventive measure against corrosion.

Hard chrome is typically utilized to reduce friction and wear, impart some corrosion resistance, or is applied to repair a worn or damaged component.
